Alex H. Peña Sr. was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 9, 1939 to John and Antonia Peña. He entered into the arms of our Lord on April 24, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Aurora Peña; children Alex Peña Jr., Roy Peña and wife Katherine (Victoria, Emily, Olivia), Darlene and husband Eddie Clark (Sabrina, Eddie, Miranda), Michael Peña and wife Jessica (Seth, Ethan), Jeannette and husband Roland Portillo (Samantha, Alyssa, Roland Jr.); siblings Lydia Saenz, Gilbert, Paul, and Mary Louise Peña, and Edna Martin; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings John, Richard, and Yolanda Peña, and Bertha Ramirez.
Sr. Master Sergeant Alex H. Peña retired from the Texas Air National Guard with dedicated service to the 149th Civil Engineering Squadron after 24+ years. This time in his life gave him the opportunity to travel and see the world; memories he enjoyed sharing with his children and grandchildren. Devoted even in his career as a draftsman, he worked at Southwest Research Institute for more than 25 years. Yet, his passion in life was coaching baseball at Westwood Terrace Little League as his children were growing up. The love he had for his favorite pastimes fishing/hunting with family and traveling couldn’t compete with the joy he felt as the whole family visited while he and his wife tried to watch the Spurs. From fighting with the grandkids over the remote to the homemade french-fries and banana-splits he made, visiting grandpa was always a treat.
Always the biggest supporter of his children and grandchildren, Alex was often seen on the sidelines of their athletic fields/courts, in the audience at academic/artistic events, or even just shuttling his grandchildren around. His interest in their active lives extended even to their academics as he instilled the value of a higher education to his children. Each have gone on to receive college degrees, passing on his values and knowledge to another generation.
We appreciate all of the love that has been sent our way and know his soul and his spirit will live on in us forever.
