Alban F. Varnado, 94, of San Antonio, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015. He was born to Morris and Celeste Varnado in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge later received a doctorate from L.S.U. He served in the Air Force for 17 years spending part of that time in WWII. He finished his military career as a First Lieutenant. He was a professor at L.S.U. for 20 years. After he retired from teaching, he spent his time volunteering for the American Red Cross for another 17 years. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Clarice Varnado, Melba Armstrong and Maurice Stuart and his wife, Linda. He is survived by his nieces, Kathleen Oliver and Mary LeBlanc.
A visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 22nd at 6 pm with Rosary at 7 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 23rd at 12 pm with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
