Agapito "Gapo" Zapata, age 61, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2024, surrounded by his devoted wife, their three children, and his faithful siblings. In his final days, he was visited by numerous extended family members and countless lifelong friends.
He was born on March 3, 1963 in Runge, TX, though Poteet, TX was home for the majority of his life.
Gapo is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Tomas and Margarita (Carrion) Zapata, and sister, Darita Dillard(Albert). He is survived by his wife, Irene (Berlanga) Zapata, their children Amaris, Raylynn, and Aaron Zapata, his siblings Ramiro Zapata (Kathy), Beatriz Regan (Daniel), and Belinda Sanchez, along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
The last of his siblings to settle down, Gapo undoubtedly was waiting for the most patient, kind, and loving partner; hefound purpose and meaning through the family he and Irene made. The two celebrated 23 years of marriage in October 2023. They cherished family vacations at the beach and RV trips, making memories to carry Irene, Amaris, Raylynn, and Aaron forward, forever.
Next to his family, Gapo held a passion for the outdoors, specifically spending time at his ranch. He enjoyed taking in the quiet comfort of nature's open spaces while fishing and hunting, hobbies that require quick decision-making, great focusand skill--knowledge in which he happily shared with his children when they accompanied him to the ranch.
A profoundly hard worker, Gapo proudly retired from Martin Marietta Materials after 38 dedicated years. He made a number of lifelong friends during his tenure, of which the family would like to sincerely thank for their strong support over the last year and in the days since Gapo's passing.
Gapo maintained a quiet and sometimes stubborn spirit throughout his life, and the same qualities held especially true in his final year, as he repeatedly lost and found strength, determined to hold on to this world as long as he could. We pray that just as Gapo was surrounded by overwhelming love in his final moments, he was similarly received by our departed and loving family on the other side, guiding him to eternal heavenly peace, where we hope to one day see him again.
A visitation for Agapito will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, TX 78211 with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM.
