Adela graduated from Fox Vocational High School a/k/a Tech High school in 1946 where she met the love of her life, Danny Cortez. She became Danny’s bride in 1948. Adela worked for a few years in the billing department of Joske’s Department Store downtown. She enjoyed her job and made many life-long friends. Adela was a devoted and loving housewife and mother. She embraced motherhood and taught, loved and nurtured her 3 children and attended to their every need. She encouraged them in every phase of their lives and prayed endlessly for them. Later, she would become one of the most doting grandmother’s ever. Her grandchildren were her most cherished jewels. She adored them and delighted herself in spending as much time as she could with them. She cared for each of them as their parents worked. She loved completely and unconditionally. And, the feeling was certainly mutual. When they came into school age she was so very proud of each of them even in the smallest of their accomplishments. Adela had many natural artistic abilities and hobbies including sewing, ribbon embroidery, free hand painting, crochet, needlepoint, jewelry making and Ceramics. But, Ceramics was her absolute favorite in so much that she opened a shop in her home garage. It was named Adela’s Ceramics Shop. After a year or two the Shop was moved a couple of blocks from home as the garage became overcrowded with the many enthusiastic patrons. During this time, she also entered many contests and won several awards for her exquisite pieces and expertise in ceramic lacing, porcelain and ceramic floral design. Adela would remain in Ceramics for over 20 years. She made many friends during these years but illness caused her to close the Shop. Later, Adela opened a Day Care. However, the Day Care was only in business a couple of years. Adela thoroughly enjoyed family time and conversing with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and now great-great grandchild. She also enjoyed meeting with her siblings for Saturday morning breakfast. She instilled family unity and harmony. Adela was an elegant, humble, graceful, generous and beautiful woman. She will be remembered for her pleasant character. Her legacy will live on in her children and grandchildren and to those who adored her. Adela will be deeply missed.
Adela was preceded in death by her parents, Eugenio and Adelaida; and her beloved husband of 70 years, Danny Eloy Cortez.
She leaves her cherished memory with her beloved children, Vivian Gonzales, Cynthia Calderon (Tito) and Eddie Cortez (Rebecca); her grandchildren, Gary Gonzales (Jackie), Mark Gonzales (Kristie), Marcella Alvarez (Miguel), Vince Calderon (Jessica), Eddie Cortez II, and Elizabeth Perez (Christian); her great grandchildren, Sophia, Ava, Alexander, Nicholas, and Gabriella Gonzales, Aidan, Samantha and Max Calderon, Xavier, Jacob and Marissa Alvarez, Adriana and Emma Perez with another sibling on the way; and her great-great grandchild, Alyvia Gonzales; her brother, Juan Cavazos (Naomi); her sister, Gloria Hinojosa; and her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who all adored her.
