1SGT Elmer O. Wood, USA (RET.) was born in Puxico, Missouri to Monroe & Ola (Hodge) Wood and entered eternity on August 31, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 79. He retired from the United States Army after 28 years of service.He was assigned to the 78th Engineers (construction) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, . He was a devoted Christian and loving family man. He had an exceptional work ethic, loved working in his yard and did extensive genealogy research. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Terry Wood; and a sister, Ernestine Jones. Surviving are his wife of 4 ½ years, Magda Ofelia Wood; Children, Michael Wood (Shirley), Gary Wood, Rebecca Dent (Timothy), Catrina Grivich (Steven); grandchildren, Michael Wood, Jr., Amanda Allers (Justin), Nicholas Dent (Ashley), Sarah Dent, Sabrina and Tatiana Grivich; and great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Wood; sisters, Patricia Ring, Joyce Abbott; brother, Delbert Wood. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
