Willie Franklin Jr. was born May 17, 1945 to Willie Franklin Sr. and Marie Franklin in Kerens, TX.
He professed his faith in Christ at a very young age and was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in San Angelo. He graduated from Central High School in 1963 and was united in marriage to Mary Holliday. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Vietnam War for a two year tour. After his return home he attended San Angelo Barber College where he received his barber’s license. He was a cook at several restaurants. He then opened his own record shop on Randolph St. for several years. Later he worked at Armor’s Packing Co. for several years. He then married Seleda Greene and transferred to Ft. Madison Iowa with Armor’s where they lived for 20+ years. After a divorce, he moved back to Texas and became an entrepreneur until his retirement.
Preceding him in death were his mother Marie Franklin, Father Willie Franklin Sr. and a sister Frances Marie Kelley.
He leaves to mourn two daughters; Robbie and Husband Chris Dominigue of Houston, TX and Marshal and husband Harold Sherman of Ft. Worth, TX; a son Sherman Dickerson of New York, sisters Jo Ann Green of Pomona, CA, Joyce and husband Charlie Evans of Austin TX, Wrenette Franklin and Sandra Love both of San Angelo, TX, and Debra and husband Willie Fay of Bedford, TX; brothers Loyd Franklin of San Angelo, TX and Floyd Franklin and wife Tanga of Ft. Worth, TX, precious grandchildren Lakriska, Erica, Tausha, Candice, Zachary and Daniel; 9 great-grandchildren, special friends Walter Lewis and Henry James and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service is 11:00 AM Friday April 22, 2011 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Givens officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home.
