Williams stepped into the loving arms of his Savior and the embrace of his son Jimmy Don. A life well lived, transitioned from this earth and became free from physical problems and totally whole. Also there to greet him were his parents, brothers and sisters and a host of loved ones who had gone on before.
Gene was born on April 29th, 1930 to Bob and Helen Williams in Ozona, Texas. The youngest of eight children, he attended Seminole High School where he excelled in football and track.
Fate would take a hand in early 1950 when a stop at the Loma Linda Drive-in would change the direction of Gene’s life for it was there that he met the love of his life Billie Minor. Billie and Gene were married on May 16, 1950 and celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage just a few short weeks ago.
To still be a part of the things he loved after his youth, he became the best fan that any team could ever have. He never missed any event that his children or grandchildren participated in and was a loyal fan of the Lake View Chiefs and Maidens for over 50 years. If Gene was your fan, you had a fan indeed. The Dallas Cowboys ranked high on the list too.
He traveled all over Texas following another passion, rodeos. San Angelo, Pecos, Coleman. Rocksprings and Super Bull were some of his favorites to name a few. He also enjoyed riding horses and raising livestock.
Gene worked for the City of San Angelo for thirty-four years and was known for his devotion, accuracy, dependability and workmanship.
He never met a stranger and he embraced people from all walks of life with sincerity and kindness.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Helen Williams, siblings- Lena Mae, Buck, Eunice, Pansy, Leo, S.D, and Vernon and most recently his beloved son Jimmy Don in August of 2014.
Those left behind who will miss him always are his beloved wife Billie, the children whom he loved and was so very proud of, Randall Gene Williams, Donna Williams Cates and husband Daryl and daughter in law Connie Williams. His grandchildren whom he adored, Quintin Dobbratz, Garrett Williams, Kelli Williams, Baylie Cates and Jaden Cates, Taylor Bulloch and Christi Copeland. An added joy and blessing in the last few years were great granddaughters- Harper and Haddie Copeland. His extended family was very important to him also, including sister in law Betty Conrad, brother in law Roy Minor and wife Betty and nieces and nephews whom he had very close relationships with always.
The family wishes to extend a very sincere thank you to Dr. Stacy Beaty, Dr. Meena Betha, Nurses Garrett Maxwell and Shirley Stringfellow and the supportive staff of Shannon 4th and 5th floors South.
