Stephen Lamont Nance, 54, a resident of San Angelo, Texas, tragically passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022, as a result of a commercial vehicular accident. Stephen was born on Veterans Day, November 11, 1967, in Steubenville, Ohio. He was adopted by his loving paternal grandparents, Walter Allen Nance and Mattie Clyde Russell, who raised him as their son. Stephen graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central HS where he played varsity football, baseball and basketball. After graduating in June 1987, he proudly enlisted to serve our country as a United States Marine. Upon completion of boot camp as a member of Platoon 2077 on Parris Island, Stephen was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station, Tustin, California, as an armorer. While there he met his wife, Stefanie.
Stephen and Stefanie married on June 23, 1990, in Baltimore, MD. Shortly afterward, he deployed to Operation Desert Shield/Storm and remained overseas when their first child Lawrence was born. Their second son, Gordon, was born a year and a half later. Stephen worked multiple jobs to support their young family and Stefanie through medical school. He continued to provide support while his wife commissioned into the United States Air Force. Stephen went onto attend Howard College where he was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in May of 2012.
Upon his death, Stephen was working tirelessly as a dedicated Senior Pump Operating Engineer as providing for his family remained a top priority. His love for them was apparent for all to see. Stephen was also proud to be well known as a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His motto always was “One God, one wife, one football team!”
Stephen is survived by his wife, Colonel (Dr.) Stefanie Nance, sons Lawrence Nance (girlfriend Susana Pamplona Cardona) and Gordon Nance (fiancé Baileigh Toenes), grandsons Stephen Lamont Nance, II (his namesake) and Michael Nance. Stephen is also survived by his sister, Sheri Dodson of Steubenville, Ohio, his niece Tasia Dodson and nephew Chaz Dodson of Woodbridge, Virginia, and numerous cousins, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, and father Lawrence Nance of Steubenville, Ohio.
