

In honor of her life there will be a visitation at Johnson’s Funeral Home Thursday October 3 from 5:30 pm until 7pm, a memorial service will be at the First Christian Church October 4 at 10am with the Reverend Ben Hubert officiating, a reception will follow in Fellowship Hall, and all are invited.
Sandy was born December 30, 1945 to Keith and Posey Long in San Angelo, Texas. As a lifelong resident of San Angelo she attended SAISD graduating from Central High School in 1964 and the graduating from Angelo State College in 1968. A lifelong dream of following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a teacher began in 1968 and culminated with her retirement in 1999. Receiving many teaching awards during her teaching career, earning the respect of her peers, and praise from the untold hundreds of student she taught, certified Sandy a true teaching professional. Sandy had three goals she wanted to pursue: be the best Teacher she could be, be the best Wife she could be, and be the best Mother she could be. Sandy well surpassed all her goals in life which made her a caring and compassionate individual who worked hard for all she received and all that gave. Sandy was a lifelong member of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ at Lakeview Christian Church and First Christian Church. Serving in many capacities in the life of the church Sandy was truly a point of light for all to follow. Sandy was active in many areas of the community in serving others and volunteering for any job that needing doing. As a longtime member of the San Angelo Retired Teachers Association she continued her love of teaching through continued participation in the teaching profession alongside so many other teacher and administrators.
In 1968 she married the love of her life, Norman Ray Jenkins, in a partnership of love and respect for 45. Sandy and Norman Ray have one son Jason Ray Jenkins who was the pride and joy of their lives and continues to bless them in every way. On June 6, 2006 Jason returned to Sandy the gift of life by giving her a kidney when she suffered renal failure.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father Keith Long, in June 2013. Sandy is survived by her husband Norman Ray Jenkins, son Jason Ray Jenkins of Chicago, Il, mother Posey Long of San Angelo, Sister Cheryl and husband Don Pettit of Lenior City,Tn. Brothers Eddie Keith Long of San Angelo, Kevin and wife Rene Long of Abilene, Tx. Sandy is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Loved and remembered by the many classmates from the class of 64, teachers, friends, and her church family Sandy will always be a warm spot in the heart of so many.
