When we would go on trips, sometimes the sun would be in our eyes. He would tell us that he could move the sun. When he turned, the sun would no longer be in our eyes. We believed he had the power to move the sun for us. I would tell people that my Papo was so amazing, he could move the sun. 

Also, anytime we were done visiting him and we had to leave, Papo always would give us a dollar. Without fail, we could count on getting a dollar from Papo at the end of our visit. My brother, sister, and I each tucked a dollar into his casket so he will always have our dollars with him. I love you Papo and will miss you so much. Until we meet again!

Tio Roy was a great uncle. He always made me laugh and knew how to make me feel special. I always looked forward to seeing him and Tia Elodia. His smile and his presence will be greatly missed. Love you Tio.

When I was in middle school, my Grammie and Papo were visiting us. I was outside a couple of blocks away and I had stepped on a nail and it went through my foot. My sister ran to get help and Papo ran to come and find me. He scooped me up and carried me back to the house. After fixing me up he proceeded to just make me laugh so I would forget about the pain. He was the funniest man!! He would do these little shuffle dances and make these silly faces. He will be missed but these memories are treasured.

 Roy Rubio was a mans man. He found joy in making others laugh. Even over the past several years with suffering 2 strokes, the beginning of dementia, and early stages of Parkinsons he never lost his sense of humor. He had won numerous boxing matches in his teenage and young adult life. Including a championship at Fort Hood when he was in the Army National Guard. He gave of himself as a boxing coach to many boys in Jal, NM. He was my boxing coach for over 3 years when I was a young man. He was a proud American and set an example with a 20 year career in the Army National Guard. All 3 of his sons served in the Air Force, 1 grandson is a PJ in the AirForce, and 1 great-grandson will graduate from Air Force basic training this Spring. Around 1983 he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord and he lived a godly life from that point on. He loved his churches that he went to in each place he lived. He enjoyed joining with other men through the Promise Keepers ministry and he loved doing mission work in several different places in Mexico. Roy had a gentle and humble spirit as he helped anyone in need. He was a great father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his wife and his family. He loved to fish, play golf, and watch western movies. All of which I enjoyed doing with him. I became a part of the Rubio family almost 39 years ago but for the past 35 years he was the dad I turned to and I loved him as I know he loved me. Everyone who saw Roy in the days following his heart attack spoke of the peace that he had in facing death. This peace that passes all understanding came from the life he experienced in Christ and he desired that others know that peace. He had his family listed as a prayer list on a piece of paper that he kept in his Bible. He never got over how much Gods forgiveness meant to him. In the back of his Bible he had written this phrase, He is for you. He has forgot all that you have done. Roy, you will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Your legacy of strength in love, honor in faithfulness, and commitment to family will be passed on to generations.
