Norman was born May 26, 1916 in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Mary Tom and Norman H. Heath, Sr. After graduating from Lubbock High School, he continued his education by attending Texas Tech University and receiving a bachelor of education degree and a master of education degree. He served in the army after which he taught band and math in Merkel, Ozona, Lubbock, and Memphis, Tx. This was where he met and married his beloved Mary Helen. They literally met playing music together (piano and cornet) and continued their loving marriage for 64 years. He retired after 25 years with the city of Lubbock as the personnel director. They were active members of First United Methodist Church of Lubbock for 60 years before moving to San Angelo and then attending Community Hills Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Helen Lindsey Heath, his parents, and his brother, Parrish Heath.
Survivors include daughters Marilyn Shelton and husband Buddy of North Richland Hills and Barbara Nevins and husband James R. of San Angelo. Also surviving include a grandson, Aaron Shelton of Bedford, two granddaughters, Shelli Stone and husband Brian of Argyle, and Lindsey Geske and husband Jason of Sonora, and 2 great grandchildren, Morgan and Andrew Stone of Argyle.
The family is extremely grateful to the nursing staff at Meadow Creek Nursing Facility, Baptist Hospice, and Dr. Chris Barnett for their love, care, and support. The family requests that memorials be made to Community Hills Christian Church in lieu of flowers.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 16 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted by Oneal Westbrook on Monday, January 17 at 1:00 pm at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
