Nicolas Vargas Robledo Jr., of San Angelo TX was honored and celebrated with his entry into the gates of heaven by God and his Savior Jesus on 2/23/2022. He was born on 8/26/1937 in Eldorado, TX to Nicolas Robledo and Filomena Robledo. Nicolas attended a segregated school located in the “barrio” of Eldorado, TX and with the end of segregation, he was able to attend Eldorado High School. Falling in love he joined together with a young lady named Edna Hill on 3/26/1955 marrying her three times! Once by the justice of the peace, once by a Baptist pastor and once by the catholic church. Nicolas wanted to ensure that Edna was his and that their marriage was true! Nicolas went to work for his wife and 5 children and was unable to finish high school, but later went on to achieve his GED. His wife Edna began her relationship with Jesus and would attend church while Nicolas would wait in the car for her. He then moved to standing outside the church doors, making eye contact with her pointing at his watch, letting her know it was time to go! Invitation after invitation to join her, he reluctantly accepted one day to come into the church building and found a comfortable seat on the back row. 1 year later, in 1963, he accepted Jesus into his heart changing the course of his life for eternity!
He began his new path when he was asked to help fill in when the traveling pastor in Eldorado and Sonora was unable to make it. Nicolas then studied to obtain his ministerial license in 1967 and together he and Edna began Templo Getsemani in Eldorado, TX. He learned to play the accordion and guitar and he and Edna sang together assisting with praise and worship. He and Edna began to gather men and woman where they began a men’s and woman’s ministry there as well as children’s ministry. In 1985 they traveled to Ulysses, KS and established another church, Templo Getsemani there. In 1990, they moved to Garden City KS and began another church, Primera Asamblea de Dios where they pastored for 20 years. While pastoring in Garden City, Nicolas became the Presbyter of the Midwest District of Kansas Assemblies of God and later Executive Presbyter of the Midwest District of Kansas Assemblies of God. In 2008, they moved to Conway AR, and began to assist the The Rock Solid Assemblies of God traveling to the surrounding cities to assist with ministering, vacation bible schools, Men’s ministry, and Woman’s Ministry, Missionettes and Royal Rangers. Retiring from the Assemblies of God, he moved to San Angelo, TX where he became a member of Word of Life and assisted in teaching the Spanish Sunday School where he continued to make time for coffee meeting old friends and making new ones.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, 1 son in law, and 2 grand babies.
Nicolas is survived by his wife Edna Robledo whom he loved with all his heart. Their love story of 67 years of marriage produced their son Nicolas Robledo and granddaughters Monica Stewart, Ruby Robledo, Sonia Mills, Brandy Robledo, daughter Melva Martinez and grandchildren Eric Santellano, Bernice Santellano, Louis Santellano, daughter Filomena Gomez and grandchildren Elizabeth Gomez, Cynthia Gomez, Jr. Gomez, daughter Lisa Sanchez and grandchildren Veronica Martinez, Christopher Sanchez, daughter Michelle Diercks and grandchildren Valerie Hardwick, Aundrea Diercks, Audrey Diercks, Lonnie Gomez, 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, 1 sister Pauline Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin” Zechariah 4:10. Grandpa worked, worked, and worked more! Maybe the world thought his birth and existence here on this earth insignificant, but his life story is proof of his very much significant life in changing the Kingdom of God for eternity. It is proof of whom he was devoted to. It is proof of where His heart was. With his small humble beginnings, he imitated the works of Jesus going forth and multiplying! So with his example, do as he did go forth and do the same!
