He was born on January 10, 1930 on a farm outside Comanche, Texas to Newton and Mildred Gray.
Monroe attended Cyril High School in Cyril, OK and graduated in the class of 1947.
Monroe then began his career in the oilfield, working for Sinclair/Arco as a Warehouse Supervisor.
Monroe married Dorothy Wilkins on December 31, 1949 and had 5 children.
Monroe was a private pilot and a former member of Civil Air Patrol for over 25 years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 11:00 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Odessa, Texas.

Honorary pallbearers are Monroe's sons and grandsons: Larry Gray, Kim Gray, Jeff Gray, Michael Gray, Mitch Gray and David Rushing.
Monroe was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, daughter Gayle Gray, parents Newton and Mildred Gray, brother Weldon Gayle Gray, granddaughters Krystal and Holly Gray.
Monroe is survived by his sons, Larry and Dana of San Angelo, Jeff and Katie of Arizona, Kim and Debbie of Andrews, and Michael of Alpine.
Monroe is survived by his grandchildren, Michael Gray and wife Courtney of Baton Rouge, LA, Robin Rushing and husband David of Carencro, LA, Mitch Gray and wife Amber of Flower Mound TX, and Tonya Gray of Arizona and 10 great-grandchildren.
