On July 18th, 1940, Murphy Rae Alston was born in DeQuincy, Louisiana to Edwin and Viola Alston. Murphy grew up in Ragley, La. before marrying the love of her life Bill Carlisle in 1957, beginning a marriage bond that lasted over sixty years. Murphy raised her family in DeQuincy until moving to San Angelo in 1970. Murphy took on most of the home responsibilities while Bill worked out of town. As the children grew older she decided the time had come to join the workforce in 1974. Murphy loved children and started work in the child care center at Goodfellow Air Force Base. She retired as the supervisor of the kitchen operations in the child care center, remembered for great meals by many. Throughout her life, Murphy loved cooking, teaching, supporting and helping others perhaps the most. She excelled at a wide range of hobbies and interests. Besides her expertise in cooking, crochet, a variety of arts and crafts, Murphy loved playing bingo and was a ferocious reader. When younger she was a skilled archer, even shot black powder guns and enjoyed long motorcycle trips with her husband Bill and friends. After eighty years of finishing her career, running her household, supporting and helping others, Murphy finally rested comfortably at home following a difficult struggle with multiple health issues, taking her last breath on December 7th, 2020 in San Angelo, Texas. Murphy is survived by her brother Curtis, sister Yolanda Tippet and her husband Ronnie, her son Michael and his wife Inelda Carlisle; her daughter Kathy Wills and her husband Bobby Wills; grandsons Bryan, Scott and fiancé Carrie Hubbard, Grant Wills and his wife Emily, Jonathan Goana and his wife Danielle; granddaughters, Gayla Carlisle, Christiana Gaona, Heather Hodges and her husband Billy Hodges, Gaby Mitchell and her husband Wesley Mitchell. She is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. Murphy is preceded in death by her husband Bill Carlisle, her parents, Edwin C. and Viola Alston, her brothers, Melton, Elton, and her sisters Judy, Wava Joy, Edith Sue, Nelda and great granddaughter Amelia. Murphy and Bill will be laid to rest during a graveside service at the Alston Cemetery, in DeQuincy La. on Friday, December 11th at 2:00 P.M. Although she will not have a formal visitation, you can visit her viewing room at Johnson Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank Kindred Hospice Care for their outstanding, loving care for Murphy.
