Molina Worthington (Mollye) Nieves died Friday, February 4, 2011 at a local nursing home in San Angelo, Texas. Services are pending at Steed-Todd Funeral Home in Clovis, New Mexico with local arrangements by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nieves was born October 6, 1920 in Clovis, New Mexico to Robert Bernard Worthington and Mary Elizabeth Dickens Worthington.
She was a graduate of Clovis High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University where she attained a minor in Art, and then pursued subjects she found of interest, such as history, literature and computer science. She was married to Judge Reuben E. Nieves in 1941 and except for one year during WW II and three years while her husband studied law at the University of Oklahoma she resided in Clovis. In 1991 she and her husband moved to San Angelo. She was a member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo and friend and supporter of the Freedom Fellowship.
In addition to her role as a wife and mother she was active in the PTA, Girl Scout leadership and other civic and cultural activities. She was a charter member and later President of the Clovis Junior Woman’s Club and served many years on the Board of the Clovis Community Concerts Association and with the New Mexico Outdoor Drama Association. She was part owner TAGR’S, a gift shop in Clovis, a member Paint’n Place Art Group, and was a charter member of the Art Selection Committee at Clovis Community College. And with her husband, she served on the Eastern New Mexico University Symphony Board. After moving to San Angelo in 1991 she began researching the genealogy of both her family and that of her husband and spent many hours compiling Family Tree books for more than 60 family members. And for many years, along with her daughter, Michael Koschak, she delivered Meals for the Elderly.
She is survived by one daughter Dr. Michael Koschak [Dr. Ramsey Koschak], of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Michelle Latson[Greg] of Austin, Texas, Jason Nieves and Tara Nieves-Pitcher[Steve] of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jordan Koschak Maedgen [Brody], of Dallas, and Seth Koschak of Dallas. Also seven great grandchildren: Britton and Victoria Furlow and Dakota Enzo and Major Austin Pitcher, of Baton Rouge Louisiana, Cade Nieves of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Chase and Caitlyn Latson, of Austin, Texas, and Carter James and Charlotte Michael Maedgen, of Dallas, Texas. Also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Richard Randolph Nieves. Also preceding her in death were her parents and five brothers, Aubry, Ed, Robert, Homer and Lester Ray Worthington, and two sisters, Eva Worthington Griggs and Esther Faye Worthington.
