Retired Col. Michael F Rader, 73, of San Angelo, Texas, passed to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on September 15, 2021. He was born on April 24th, 1948, to the late George and Lavern Rader of Fort Worth, Texas.
Col. Rader served in the United States Army initially, and then in the United States Air Force totaling 31 1/2 years of active service. He met and married the love of his life, Marvie Askew in Aviano, Italy who was serving as a nurse in the United States Air Force. He and Marvie were blessed with 47 years of marriage and two beautiful children, Jonathan George Rader and Jennifer Burkman.
Some of his Air Force assignments and responsibilities consisted of the following:
1. Pilot training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

2. Travis Air Force Base, California serving as executive manager of the Law Enforcement Function, Security Police Unit.
November 1970 – August 1972
3. Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand serving as senior officer responsible for all base defense activities and law enforcement.
August 1972 - November 1973
4. Aviano Air Base, Italy serving as executive manager of administration and reports function for the Security Police Unit.
November 1973 – December 1975
5. Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska as operations officer for a unit of more than 500 personnel providing law enforcement services.
December 1975 – 1979.
6. Izmir Turkey served as counterintelligence /security officer.
September 1979 – December 1981
7. Luke Air Force Base, Arizona as commander and chief of the Security Police Unit.
December 1981 – June 1988
8. Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma as police chief.
June 1984 – June 1988
9. Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio as deputy chief of security police.
June 1988 – October 1990
10. Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada as police chief.
June 1992 – 1995
11. Randolph AFB, Texas as chief of security police.
June 1995 – November 1997.
12. Tucson, Arizona, served as program manager, job developer, employment consultant for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. April 1998 – 2003
Col. Rader touched and impacted many lives with his kindness, wisdom, friendship, generosity, and leadership.
He enjoyed and found teaching preschool Sunday school at Paul Ann church greatly rewarding until his mobility became impaired. He was very active in the lives of the veteran community, and demonstrated great leadership, caring, and concern for both the veterans and their families. His priorities in life were loving and serving God, loving and caring for his family, and loving and serving his country.
Col. Rader is survived by his lovely wife, Marvie Etta Askew Rader; his sister, Michele Rader Smith, of Burleson, Texas; son, Jonathan Rader and wife, Becky, of Midlothian, Texas; daughter, Jennifer Burkman and husband, Aaron, of Seattle, Washington; 7 grandchildren; Devin Rader, Daelin Rader, Bailee Rader, and Brisyn Rader of Midlothian, Texas; Jordan Rader, San Diego, California, Tyson Burkman, and Kennedy Burkman of Seattle, Washington. He also has a host of nieces, nephews, and friends to cherish his memory.
