Mary Athanas Spencer

Mary Athanas Spencer, 98, of San Angelo, passed away November 6, 2016. She was born in Temple, Texas on May 7, 1918. Mary graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1936 and married James Leslie Spencer on March 17, 1942. Mary worked as a manager for Stadium Lanes for 32 years. She was a member of the San Angelo Women’s Bowling Association, and had a passion for people and bowling. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Bea Athanas and Joann Chakos and 1 great grandchild. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Beverly Renken and George T. Spencer; grandchildren, Leslie C. Renken, Jodi Estes, Steven C. Spencer, Laura E. Monette, Jerry Spencer, Shawna M. Pena, Christon Spencer, Athynna Spencer; and 13 great grandchildren. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church with burial to follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
