Mary loved sewing, cooking, quilting, painting and growing flowers. She hated picking cotton. During World War II, she drove rivets in the B-24 and the P-51 air planes for the military. With her friends, she taught the two year-old Sunday school class in church for over fifty years. She also made lap robes for nursing homes.
Mary was a life-long Christian and loving wife and mother. She worked for many years for GTE to put her sons through college.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Marcus J. Blann; her brothers, DeWitt and Talmadge Waldrip; and her sisters, Melva Dunn, Flora Mormon, and Maxine Stewart. She is survived by her two sons; Ron (Ann) of San Angelo and Jess (Zula) of Kingsland, Texas; four grandchildren; Josh (Kim) and their son, Beckett, of Keller, Jon (Lauren) and their children, Emma, Hayley, Ana, and Finley, of San Angelo; Shawn (Bill) Meredith and their daughter, Shreiner, and Brandi Sweeten of Camp Wood, Texas; many nephews, nieces and other family members.
The family is grateful for the loving care by Bronte Nursing Home and Kindred Hospice during her last days. In lieu of flowers, please consider gifts to your favorite charity. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2022 in the chapel of Johnson’s Funeral Home with interment to follow in Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
