Marquita La-Gean “Keeta” Smith, 81, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 31, 2014 in San Angelo. The Funeral Service will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 4, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of San Angelo with Rev. James Hassell officiating. The Graveside service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas.
Marquita was born February 11, 1933 in Brownwood, Texas to Jesse Jewel and Mary Ila Faye Smith. She grew up in the Brownwood area and graduated from Early High School. Marquita then attended Howard Payne College where she met the love of her life, Terry P. Smith. They were married September 20, 1952 in Brownwood, Texas and shared 61 wonderful years of marriage together and were blessed with six beautiful children. Marquita worked for many years for the City of Midland in the finance department and later for Mobil Oil Company. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who devoted her life to her family and raising her children in a Godly Christian home. Marquita loved cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting, painting, making pottery but most of all spending time with her family. She also had a quick wit and a tremendous sense of humor that she freely shared with loved ones. Her great love for life and family will live on in our hearts forever!
Marquita was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Billie Morris. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Terry P. Smith, of San Angelo; her children, Deborah Stauffer and husband Christian, of Mount Airy, N.C., Curtis Mark Smith and wife Connie Dee, of Claremore, OK., Judy Davis, of Lubbock, TX., Ronnie Smith and wife Rachel, of Midland, TX., Jeannie Eads and husband Larry, of Odessa, TX. and Tim Smith and wife Sari, of Midland, TX; her 12 Grandchildren, April Grisham, John Mark Houdyshell, Marybeth Del Rio, Gretchelyn Hernandez, Ian Davis, Evan Davis, Dylan Davis, Katie Smith, Sara Smith, Kristen Covington, Jordan Eads and Hannah Smith; her 8 Great Grandchildren; and her sister, Linda Callaway and husband Jerry, of Brownwood, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Memorials Hospice. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the employees and staff of Sagecrest and Baptist Memorials for all of the loving care given to Marquita over the years.
