Born in Kansas on September 14, 1910, Laverne grew up in Artesia, New Mexico. She pursued degrees in Music Education and taught 41 years as a music educator in public schools and universities. Music was her love. She retired from Florida State University where she was so proud that for over 20 years she was able to train teachers to be music educators that would pass on the love of music to children. She always said she loved singing because, “You can’t frown when you’re singing!”

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Josie Schnoor of Tallahassee, FL, brother, Louie Schnoor of Grass Valley, CA, sisters, Edna Lowell of Staunton, VA, Maida Carpenter of San Angelo, TX and Neva Davies Christian of Durango, Colorado.
