Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 6th in Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Janek of First Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Leroy was born September 6, 1913, in Barry, Texas, and left the family farm to go to work for the county.
He was called to military service shortly before World War II and went on to serve with the 177th Coast Artillery near Anchorage, AK. He was married to Mary Madelaine Shaw on June 21, 1944 in Fort Worth. She died in 1993.
After the war, Leroy went to work for Western Auto and remained with the company until 1959, when he opened Harris Auto Supply in San Angelo. He sold the stores in 1975 and remained active managing his investments.
Leroy was married to Fannie Hord on August 12, 1994 in San Angelo.
Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law Mary “Mary Beth” Harris Lohse and Arlen of San Angelo; a grandson, John Thomas Lohse, and, wife, April, of Austin; two great-grandsons, Luca Lohse and Liam Lohse of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are Fannie’s daughter, Vera Gray, and grandson, Chance Gray of San Angelo; son Michael Hord and wife, Rhonda of Weatherford; and step-grandson, Ryan Stembridge.
