Lee Miller Ray, Jr. age 87, passed away on December 30, 2011 in Denton, Texas. He was born in San Angelo, Texas on March 15, 1924. L. M. graduated from San Angelo High School in 1942, then attended San Angelo State University. During WWII, L. M. Served as a Staff Sergeant in the 11th Infantry,
1st Armored Division during WWII in France, Italy, Austria and Germany. During the Korean War he served as Sergeant First Class in the 330th Field Artillery. He served as a chaplain's assistant, rifleman, company clerk, and supply sergeant.
He was employed by Holcombe-Blanton Printery from 1942 to 1956 as a printer. In 1947 L. M. married Peggy Smith. The couple moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1957 where both were employed for 25 years at Stafford-Lowdon Printing Company; Peggy as a proofreader and L. M. as a printer. Both were members of the International Typographical Union. After 42 years of marriage, Peggy Ray passed away in 1989 in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Ray was employed by the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America in Irving, Texas as a proofreader from 1982 until his retirement in 1991.
L. M. married Juracy Jones in 2000 and moved to Pecos, Texas. Mr. Ray is preceded in death by his father L. M. Ray, Sr. in 1964, his mother Sallie James Ray in 1965, his first wife Peggy Ray in 1989, his son Robert Douglas Ray in 1994, and his second wife Juracy Ray in 2010. He is survived by his grandson Brian
Lee Ray of Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Ray has been active in different Southern Baptist Churches for more than 50 years. He taught first grade Sunday school from 1976 to 1991 at the First Baptist Church of Watauga in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lone Star Vintage Chevrolet Club, Automobile License Plate Collectors Association, San Angelo State University Alumni Association, and the Texas Association of Hospital Volunteers.
Family visitation will be Sunday, January 1st, at Johnson’s Funeral Home from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. Graveside service will be held at 3 P.M. on Monday, January 2nd, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM Highway 1223, San Angelo, Texas. Tel: 325-944-5000.
