Kiana Marie Torres, age 21, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. She was born on May 7, 2002, to Nicole Lindsey and Roger Torres in San Angelo. Kiana attended Bowie Elementary and went on to graduate from TLCA in the class of 2020. Kiana's senior year occurred during the height of COVID, her mom made sure she experienced a great end to her senior year by making her gift baskets every week leading up to graduation. Kiana attended Howard College and was working towards her degree to become a surgical technician. She even made the dean's list for the fall semester of 2022. She aspired to become a physician's assistant.
Kiana was highly motivated. While attending school, she worked as a manager at HEB as well as creating a business with her dad called Crafty Lil' Canines. During her time working at HEB, she greeted every customer and employee with a smile on her face. She loved creating goals for the cashiers to encourage and motivate them. Through her business with her dad, they shared wonderful memories of baking dog treats and preparing and setting up for vender booths to showcase their new products.
She always had a deep love for animals, especially her pet rabbit Fred, and her dog Winter that she leaves behind.
Despite her small stature, Kiana's family remembers her joy of eating and trying new foods including her mom's special vegan dishes - even requesting them. She also enjoyed travelling with her family to new places. She was looking forward to a trip to the Bahamas with her sister and swimming with the pigs. Kiana's adventurous spirit allowed her to experience life in a way that so many could only dream of.
The heart of Kiana's world was her family. Growing up she enjoyed fishing and playing tennis with her grandfather. She spoke so highly of her daddy. He was there to teach her how to ride a bike and was there for her when she experienced heartbreak. She was a wonderful aunt to her niece and nephew and spoiled them with extravagant gifts. She looked forward to seeing their excitement when they would open them. Kiana also loved helping her grandmother wrap Christmas gifts every year and shopping with her. Kiana would always let her mom know that her grandmother had better style than her. Kiana also volunteered her time to support her mom's love for running by dressing up as a turkey at the Turkey Trot that her mom directed. When her mom ran a marathon recently, Kiana sent her mom one of the most thoughtful and encouraging messages, "Mom I am so proud of you! You are truly someone I look up to because you are so motivated and you motivate me to want to do better I have looked at your time on the halfway point you are doing great mom. Keep it up! I love you and you got this!"
Kiana's family and friends will remember her taste for fashion and love for makeup - no matter how much she had, she always wanted more. Kiana knew no stranger. She treated everyone she encountered with love and kindness. She carried herself with a pure heart and was true to being herself. Her family remembers her quirky spirit, her beautiful smile, her big beautiful eyes, and genuine laughter. Both sides of her family saw her grow from a child, to a young lady, and into a leader. We will miss Kiana.
She is preceded in death by her maternal great grandfather, Louis Wray Bruce; her maternal great grandparents, Richard and Patricia Butler; her paternal great grandfather, Thomas Torres Sr., and her cousin, Luis Hernandez.
