Kenneth Wayne Krueger, 72 of San Angelo, Texas passed away peacefully Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was born August 8, 1940 in Taylor, Texas and was the oldest of his four siblings. His childhood was spent on the family farm near Circleville. When the farm work would allow, he and his brothers roamed the nearby San Gabriel River. There many adventures were made fishing, hunting and exploring the likes of “Comanche Bluff” and jumping off the nearby railroad bridge. After graduating from Taylor High School in 1958, he continued to pursue one of his passions, playing football for Texas Lutheran College and Southwest Texas State College. He was a member of Alpha Psi Lambda fraternity. Ken and Ruth (Voigt) were married in 1961. They recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with family and friends. In 1962, after graduating from Southwest Texas State College as a football letterman, Ken began his professional career. Work soon placed the couple in San Angelo where Ken worked for the State of Texas until retiring from the Texas Water Commission in 1993.
Some of Kenneth’s many talents included building his house in a rural area to be able to return to his farming roots. He was a craftsman in wood and metal. Kenneth was a private pilot who loved to take his family and friends flying. He was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association for many years and loved to keep up with latest in airplane developments. He was also active in the East Angelo Lions club for many years where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow award.
After retiring, Ken and Ruth enjoyed the Kingsland/Lake LBJ area where they made many special friends and remodeled the “Lake House”. It soon became the meeting place for friends, family and especially grandkids. Kenneth always enjoyed cooking and developing new recipes. His grandkids continue the tradition of making sausage using his recipe. Another retirement pastime was following his grandsons in their many sporting activities.
Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents, August and Hilda (Seggern) Krueger and brother, Douglas Krueger.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Krueger; brothers Col. Gary Krueger (Ret.) and wife Cindy of Wetumpka, AL; Mark Krueger and wife Rebecca of Taylor, TX; sister Marsha Mucha and husband Jimmy of Johnson City, TN; sister-in-law Lenora Krueger of Van Vleck, TX; daughter Brenda Hope and fiancé Steve Smith of Water Valley, TX; son Kevin Krueger and wife Sherri of San Angelo, TX; grandsons Kyle Krueger of Big Spring, TX, Tyler Krueger of Lubbock, TX, Paul and Cody Krueger of San Angelo, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thanks to all of Ken’s caregivers for the past year. We especially want to thank Regency House for their compassionate care extended to Ken and his family.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church in San Angelo with Pastor Diane Eggemeyer officiating. Honorary pallbearers are his four grandsons and his fraternity brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Cavalry Lutheran Church, 3231 College Hills Blvd, the Lions Club Sight Program (www.lionsclub.org) or a charity of your choice.
