Following a lengthy illness, Karen Marie Graves Williams passed away peacefully at the Graves family home overlooking Lake Nasworthy in San Angelo, TX on Friday October 8, 2010 . She was surrounded by family and friends. We will all miss her sparkling eyes, her beautiful smile, and her laugh. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Karen was born to Edward and Faye Graves on July 14, 1944 in McAllen Texas. She was a graduate of Angelo State University and lived in Austin until 2004 when she returned to San Angelo to be with her sister, Debbie.
While in Austin, Karen married Roland Williams in February 1969 and began a family that included two sons, Jason and Eric. She and Roland both played active roles in their children’s education, including serving as PTA presidents and participating in the Band Boosters. Karen loved the Lord and was active in various activities at Gateway Baptist Church, including singing in Choir, teaching Children’s Sunday School, and teaching Vacation Bible School. Karen was employed by the American Legion Auxiliary and served as Treasurer for the Department of Texas.
When Karen returned to San Angelo, she became actively involved with Glen Meadows Baptist Church. Karen and Debbie enjoyed teaching Children’s Sunday School together and assisting with Wednesday Night Meals.
She is survived by her sons Jason Williams of San Jose, California, Eric Williams of Austin, and his wife Danielle and their son James David. Karen enjoyed being a grandparent to her only grandson, James David, whom she affectionately referred to as Sugarplum. Karen, who was the eldest of four siblings, is also survived by a brother, Edward Graves, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Linda Witt of Temple and Deborah Graves of San Angelo.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Services are planned at Johnsons Funeral Home Chapel in San Angelo on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10 AM with visitation to be held on Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 5 to 7 PM.
Interment and graveside services will be held at the Cook-Walden Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas the following day at 10 AM.
