June E. Van Cleave, 86, was called home to heaven on December 2, 2014 in San Angelo. She was born June 18, 1928 in Long Island, New York. She married Bruce Van Cleave on June 7, 1947 in El Paso, Texas. June is survived by her husband, her children; Michael Bruce Van Cleave and his wife Sheryl, Marcia Christine McClendon and her husband Paul, Marilyn Jo McKinney and her husband Robert, her grandchildren; Stefanie Eigen and her husband Sam, Amanda Clark and her husband Jeremy, Evan McClendon, Hanson McKinney, Colton McKinney and Jyl Venner; and her Brothers Dr. Joseph C. Kaye and his wife Pam, William F. Kaye and his wife Carol and John J. Kaye.
June graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She was a fifth grade teacher for 23 years in the El Paso school system. June received Teacher of the Year Award. She was a member of Ysleta Woman’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Docente at the El Paso Museum of Fine Art, a member of Square Dancers of El Paso and Airstream Trailer Club.
June and her husband moved to San Angelo in 1989 where she was a member of Johnson St. Church of Christ, a volunteer for Shannon Auxillary for over 20 years, a volunteer at Rust Street Ministries, Docente at Old Fort Concho, and a volunteer for Meals for the Elderly.
Some of June’s favorite past times were kissing and hugging her grandchildren, feeding the birds, sewing, holiday decorating, cooking, and storytelling. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be Jeremy Clark, Paul McClendon, Robert McKinney, Hanson McKinney, Colton McKinney, and Bob Bradley. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, December 8, 2014 at Johnson St. Church of Christ with Tommy King officiating. The burial will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
