On October 26, 2012, our beloved June Green went to be with our Lord in heaven. Born in Dallas, Texas on June 8, 1930. She moved to El Paso in 1947, and graduated from Austin High School that same year. After attending Texas Western College (UTEP) for 2 years she transferred to Abilene Christian University and graduated in May 1951.
While at Texas Western she was a member of the CHI Omega Sorority, and was a member of vocal quintet, “The Overtones.” She was also a member of the Gold Diggers Marching Squad, and rode in a float in the Sun Carnival parade for two years. While at Abilene Christian she was a member of the Caddettes Social Club and Future Teachers of America. In April 1950 she met Alton Green and enjoyed watching him play on the only undefeated football team in the nation that year. On December 29, 1950 they were married in El Paso, Texas. While living in El Paso they were gifted with two children Beverly Jeanne and William Bradley. During their time in El Paso June taught one year and proceeded to move to Big Lake in 1954 where she was a high school teacher for three years. During that time she was involved and sponsored numerous student activities. While living in Big Lake, Texas they were blessed with a third Child Ben Wesley.
In 1959, the Green family moved to Odessa, Texas, where June taught at Odessa High School for 19 years, and was a member at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. In 1978 the family moved to San Angelo, Texas where June and Alton opened Southland Frame Center & Gallery and stayed in operation for over twenty years. After the couple retired they enjoyed many camping trips to Colorado and New Mexico and made some wonderful lifelong friends in the Twin Mountain Campers group.
June was a faithful member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ. For 17 years, she enjoyed being a part of the World Bible School and spent many hours supporting Rust Street Ministries. June enjoyed being a servant to the Lord and was a tireless worker in her service to Him.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Billie Waid of El Paso, and her grandson James Bradley Green. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend Al and her three children, eight grand children, eight great-grand children, and one great-great grandchild, one sister, Jean Wynne and many nephews and nieces. Alas, she is also survived by her many loving church friends and by her wonderful faithful friend and caregiver Oneta Scott.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Monday, October 29, 2012 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 29, 2012 at Johnson Street Church of Christ with Tommy King officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers for the service will be Andy Lima, Jim Sargent, Wesley Green, Gary James, David Gay and David Barnett. Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be Billy Mays, Russell Green, Royce Green and Melvin Green.
In memory of June, she asked that donations be given to Rust Street Ministries of San Angelo, Texas.
