Juan “John” Garcia Martinez, 66, of San Angelo, Texas gained his heavenly wings on November 24, 2023 at 6:18 p.m. surrounded by his wife Mary and mother Tina. A devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was born on August 29, 1957 in San Angelo, Texas to Otilio, Sr. and Tina Martinez. Juan attended both Mereta and Wall High Schools, he then began his career as a healthcare worker at various state run facilities. The last was at San Angelo State Supported Living Center where he medically retired. John was an avid sports player where he played with the Mereta Mustangs. He loved taking long rides on his Harley, his favorite football team was the Washington Redskins. John never knew an enemy and everyone knew his name, he loved to entertain and cooked for everybody. He is preceded in death by his father Otilio Martinez, Sr., grandson Izac Nandin; beloved niece Tiffany Martinez and nephew Lorenzo DeLaGarza. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years Mary Torres; his 4 children Robert (Dena) Torres, Raymond (Rosemary) Torres, Darlene Gonzalez and Ann Marie (Evelio, Jr.) Nandin; his mother Tina Martinez; his brothers and sisters, Virginia (Norberto Gonzales) Garcia, Andres Martinez. Mariza Martinez, Otilio Martinez, Jr. and Arthur (Elisa) Martinez; grandchildren Zane (Lindsey) Torres, Ashley (Stefanie) Torres, Alysa (Jacob McGrath) Nandin, Mikayla, Dena, Megan and Abigail Nandin, Avrey Gonzalez and Ethan Zapata; great grandchildren Landen, Cash, Krosby and Bethany Torres. John is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom he loved so much. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in the chapel of Johnson’s Funeral Home. A memorial mass celebration will be held at a later date. Pallbearers will be Arthur, Jr., Andrez, Rudy, Frank, Jeff, Salvador and Tony. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Mereta Mustangs.
