Jose V. Martinez

Jose was born to the late Pedro and Sebastiana Martinez on March 14, 1940 in O'Donnell, Texas.

Jose married Carmen Heredia in 1960 and from that marriage they were blessed with 5 sons, Raymond, Joe, Michael, Sammy, & Ray. Jose dedicated his life to his children & his wife Carmen until she preceded him in death in 1987. A few years later he met Carmen Hernandez and on February 14, 1999 the two were married until God called him home. Jose always took care of Carmen the best he knew how.

Jose was a very happy, fun, loving person who enjoyed being around family and friends. He had so much love and faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and especially "La Virgencita" whom he would say took care of him all the time. He was the type o person that would pray at any given moment and if you were around you'd better bow your head and listen. When he was praying the Rosario, we knew better not to disturb him. Jose's hobbies were baking, fishing, and especially gardening. He had a green thumb and could beautify anything he touched in a matter of time.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Sr and Sebastiana Martinez; brothers, Roman Martinez, Sr, Refugio Martinez, Sr, Rufino Martinez, Sr, Emeterio Martinez, Sr, Juan Martinez, Sr, and Pedro Martinez; sister, Romana Bugarin; and sons, Raymond Martinez and Michael Martinez.

Jose is survived by his wife, Carmen Martinez; sons, Joe Martinez, Sammy Martinez, and Ray Martinez; grandchildren, Sammy Martinez II, Zachary Joe Martinez, Matthew Jacob Martinez, Addilyn Amora-Rose Martinez, Alayah Lillian-Marie Martinez; great-grandchildren, Samuel Martinez III, Elie Martinez, and Adelene Martinez; step-children, Irma Rojas and husband George, Danny Hernandez, Joe Hernandez and wife Rachel, Javier Hernandez, Betty Lopez and husband Victor, Tony Hernandez and wife Christine; step-grandchildren, Luis Hernandez and wife Anahi, Rubi and Dakota Hernandez, Janie Perez, Angelica Falcon, Reina Perez Nava and husband Adrian, Tiffany Lopez and husband Andrew, Victor "Pookie" Lopez, Jr, Angela Hukill and husband Brian, Payton Hernandez, Zavanna and Anastasia Hernandez; and 7 step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Manuel Martinez; sisters, Benita Davila, Irene Galbraith, Maria Velasquez, Bruna Martinez, and Cristina Ceballos; sister-in-laws, Lupe Martinez, Oliva Gonzales, Mary McArther and husband Ralph, Francis Gonzales and husband Norbert, Mickey Gonzales and husband Greg; brother-in-law, Jerry Navarro and wife Rachel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jose spent a lot of time with his niece and nephews and their families; he became a father figure to Paul, Martin, Pete, Cassie, and Adam.

If anyone knew Jose, they would call him "Uncle Joe". His would say his famous words "Aqui, Martinez!" while slapping his foot at the same time.
