Our beloved, John David Serna, was called home on March 31, 2022. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, god-father, dear friend to many, and the gentlest of souls. John was born on July 21, 1963 to Marcelina R. and Guillermo C. Serna in Lamesa, TX. He attended elementaries in both Lamesa and San Angelo, and later went to Edison Jr. High School and graduated from Central High in 1981. He had also later attended Assumption Seminary in San Antonio and graduated from the University of Dallas in Denton. He had previously lived in Lamesa, San Angelo, spent two years in Louisiana, several years in Lubbock, and eventually returned to San Angelo; while also spending the last few years based in San Antonio. One of John’s many passions from his early years, was his Faith in God. He was able to combine that with his servant’s heart and his passion for music for many years. John grew up as an altar server, later singing and playing his guitar in church, sang and competed with the Central HS Chorale, performed in musicals, was deeply involved in the local Search For Christian Maturity program throughout the local diocese, and often provided liturgical ministries whenever called upon for any occasion at which his presence was requested from the time he was very young. He worked for over 18 years as a paralegal and specialized in assisting bi-lingual clients receive clear understanding of their cases with impeccable devotion to their needs. He later served in the field of restorative rehabilitation when he worked for CSCD. John fully believed that every soul deserved a chance and an opportunity to offer their gifts in this world. He offered everyone equal respect because he believed we are all children of God. His accomplishments were many and he was so much more than any position he ever held. The love he spread was genuine and anyone who ever knew him can attest to this. His heart was that of a servant from the time he was born. We have no doubt he has already heard the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” John was preceded in his departure from this earth by his sister Lucia R. Serna, brother Willie C. Serna, Jr., sister MaryAnn Hernandez, brother Gabriel P. Serna, and is survived by his parents Marcelina R. and Guillermo C. Serna of San Angelo, sister and sister-in-law Alice Serna-McDougald and Lisa McDougald of Houston, brother Steve L. Serna of Austin, sister Sara G. Serna of San Angelo, a multitude of god-children, nieces, and dear friends who were his chosen family on which he imprinted his kindness within their hearts forever. We know he is joyfully resting in God’s heavenly glory now. The family wishes to thank his devoted care team who attended to him. Services will be directed through Johnson’s Funeral Home with visitation to be held in their main chapel on Tuesday April 5 beginning at 6pm, with a Rosary following at 7pm, and a funeral mass at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church on Wednesday April 6 at 10:30am, followed by a graveside blessing at Lawnhaven Cemetery.
