John was the third son of seven siblings. He was born to Leona Skinner Barnes (Stiener) and John Adam Barnes Sr. on June 12, 1920 in Allen, Texas. He spent his early years in Mahony, TX, a little community near Sulphur Springs, TX.
John joined the Air Corp in 1941 and served in radio communications and was honorably discharged in 1943. He spent his enlistment time in Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Missouri. His overseas deployment was in France and Germany. He and Martha Nell Sissel met and married October 4, 1943, while he was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo. The lived the 70 years of their marriage in San Angelo except for a short time in Big Lake.
John became an electrician after his discharge and worked for 33 years before retirement in 1980 and began an appliance repairman in his shop at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Clyde Barnes, Harvey Barnes, Tom Barnes; sister Willie Frances McDaniel and granddaughter Jeanie Everett.
John and Martha were blessed with a wonderful family 2 daughters Beverly Bell and husband Calvin and Barbara Buzbee and husband Ed, granddaughter Janna Morris and husband Denny, 5 great grandchildren Lori Sentell and husband J.T., Daisy Glaspie, Levi Sparks, Chy Everett, Ethan Everett; two sisters Nell Phillips and Maxie Bell and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Tuesday at 10:00 AM October 8th at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ with Rev. Ben G. Hubert officiating.
