Jean M. Tomlin died June 17, 2023 at 96 years of age. She was born in Ipswich, England to Percy and Doris Gipson. After World War II she came to the United States on a merchant ship, as the only woman with 40 sailors, to marry Leslie W. Tomlin.
She is survived by children Stephanie Warrington, Stuart and Sharynn Tomlin, Greg and Angelia Tomlin; grandchildren Les and Mandy Tomlin, Rebecca and TJ Filipowicz, Kain and Chelsea Tomlin, Blain Tomlin and 7 great-grandchildren.
Jean is predeceased by husband Leslie W. Tomlin, son in law Bill Warrington, grandson David Ordiway, parents Percy and Doris Gipson, and brother Kenneth Gipson.
Her husband’s military career brought her to San Angelo where she continued to raise her family. She worked with the San Angelo Police Department for several years before joining the Tom Green County Sheriff Department as the Civil Deputy. She retired after many years with the rank of Sergeant, from the sheriff’s department.
Our mother loved painting and left her family many beautiful pictures to always remind us of her creativity. She was an avid reader all her life and always had 1 or 2 books going at the same time. Her library card should be enshrined for overuse.
Although naturalized as a United States citizen in 1948 she never forgot her British roots. Although her accent was not quite as British as it once was it definitely was not Texan.
She was greatly loved and admired by her children and grandchildren and will always be in our hearts.
