Janice Strong was born May 12th, 1938 in Albany, Texas to William Melvin Strong and Nina Louise Strong (nee Sauer). Our loving mother went to be with the Lord on March 9th, 2016. She is survived by sister Mary Hendon; sons Jeff Hale and Richard Hale and wife Susan; step-son Gary Roberts; step-daughter Trudy Roberts; and step-son Tim Roberts; grandchildren: Tara Amaya, Tyler Andrews, JT Roberts, Ryan McCormack, and Lindsay McCormack; great-grandchildren: James McCormack, Seth McCormack, Adrea McCormack, Aidan Schwericke, and Julian Shepherd. She was preceded in death by husbands Clyde Hale, Gary D. Roberts, and Troy Billington; sister Shirley Harvil; and grandson Jeremy McCormack.
Jan grew up in McCamey, Texas and graduated from McCamey High School in 1956. Jan was a loving mother and devoted wife. She was very giving with whatever she had including her time. She got great pleasure out of serving others. Jan was always there for her family and friends. When stricken with transverse myelitis, she showed her courage and strength by overcoming paralysis and encouraging other patients by word and example along the way. Her message to family and friends was always, 'Choose to be happy." She lived this out through the good times and bad in her life.
She had a long and successful career at GTE starting as a receptionist, and retiring over 30 years later as a Network Analyst. It was during this time that she met and married Gary Dale Roberts, who was the love of her life. They were together for 35 years, until Gary's death in 2003, raising their family in San Angelo.
Jan enjoyed all things creative and playing Mah-Jong. She had a knack for decorating and design, which you know if you ever entered her home. She always did in a way that made it feel warm and homey. She was also fond of the time she spent volunteering and being with her church family at 9th and Main Church of Christ.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 14th, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A celebration of Jan's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 9th and Main Church of Christ with burial to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
You leave behind so many wonderful memories for friends and family, and are now in paradise in the eternal presence of our Lord.
