Jim was born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania on July 23rd, 1935. Jim was pre-deceased by his mother, Elizabeth Jezierski Plastas, his father, Telemahous Charles Plastas, and his sisters, Athena Plastas Smith and Eleanor Plastas Keen. He was pre-deceased by his wife Kay Auerbach Plastas, who he was married to from 1996 to 2009. His first wife Patricia Janes Plastas died in 1995.
Jim had a successful career as a chef, overseeing food service operations in New York State, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. He was a devoted parishioner of Holy Angels church in San Angelo and a member of their bible study group and choir. He was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous, his beloved twelve step program. He felt particularly proud of his work bringing AA fellowship to prison inmates. Jim’s congenial and outgoing nature also meant that he was known and well liked by many people from waitresses at his favorite restaurants to the bakers at HEB to the staff at his favorite car wash.
Jim was survived by his daughter Melinda Plastas of South Portland, Maine and her partner Laura Gottfried, his daughter Andrea Plastas of Richmond, California and her partner Joyce Lupack, and their daughter Mia Plastas Lupack, and his step-daughter Kelley M Auerbach of Virginia, Maryland and step-son H. Kevin Auerbach, of Winchester, Virginia. He is also survived by his sister Sr. Lydia Plastas, SFCC and many nieces and nephews including his niece Margie Murphy and her husband John. He is survived by his sister and brother in-law Debbie and John Galenski and his sister-in-law Phyllis Wogan and the entire Wogan family, his cousin Hal Plastas of Phoenix, Az, his best friend Nelson Word of San Angelo, TX as well as his special friends at Holy Angels and Alcoholics Anonymous.
Jim’s family would like to thank all the staff at the Baptist Memorials Long Term Care facility and the Rotary House of Hope for the exceptional professional and loving care they provided during the last five months. In addition chaplain Ellen King, and all of the staff with Odyssey Hospice, offered Jim and his family great care, guidance, and comfort.
A funeral mass and inurnment will be held at Holy Angels Church, 2210 Rutgers, San Angelo, TX. 76904 at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 12th. A reception will be held at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association of Texas, www.texaslung.org. or to the charity of your choice.
