On Saturday, Aril 21, James R. "Jim" Phillips, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away at Shannon Medical Center. Jim was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on August 25, 1944 to Bill and Ruth Phillips and spent his youth on his father's dairy farm in Belen, NM. Jim graduated from both McMurray and Hardin-Simmons Universities in Abilene with a degree in teaching and an advanced degree in genetics. He was a teacher, principal, and coach at Hawley High School. He spent the majority of his career working at various positions in the oil field and most recently was the co-owner of Blue Line Drilling in San Angelo. He was an avid fisherman and long-time member and strong supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Most of all Jim loved being with his family and friends and spending time on his ranch in Bronte.
Jim is survived by his wife, Claudia; the couple's four sons, Shad and wife Tina, Jeff and wife Cari, Eric, and Shawn; grandchildren, Jordyn, Collin, Taylor, Luke, Bo, and Kaden; his sister, Shirley and her husband Johnny.
Visitation with the Phillips family will be held from 6-9 PM, Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Johnson's Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation held in Abilene at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Thursday, April 26, 2018, from 6-8 PM.
