Jack grew up in the backdrop of the booming oilfield days in Port Arthur, Texas. He attended The University of Texas at Austin. During WWII, Jack joined the US Air Force and flew B-29 missions in the Asian Theatre. He returned to the U.S. where he was stationed for a short time in Denver, Colorado and eventually “home” to San Angelo in 1945 to his wife Lou Bledsoe Morgan and raised his family. Jack purchased Troy Linen Supply Company from his father-in-law A.C. Bledsoe and ran it for many years.
Jack was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Jack Morgan in February of 1945. He is survived by his three daughters, Dana McCallister and husband John, Dean Jameson and Dru Morgan; 3 grandchildren, Jacob, Suarra and Danielle and 3 great-grandchildren Jaylea, Dawson and Bobby.
Jack had been blessed to have Earleen Jones in his life and a part of his family. Earleen and Jack spent over 13 years together and were virtually inseparable. Earleen’s mother, Frances Whitehurst, her daughter, Janna, and Janna’s children Morgan and Logan were also an important part of Jack’s life.
His close friends were Truett W. Smith, Sam Nance, Larry Barnes and Mark Priest.
Jack and business partner, Bart W. Mann, opened Bart Mann Originals Jewelers in 1968. In 1969 Jack and Bart discovered the now famous Concho Pearls in O.C. Fisher Lake. Bart died in 1974. Jack kept the heritage of Bart Mann Originals alive. In 1975, Mark Priest went to work for Jack at Bart Mann Originals. In 1995, Jack sold Bart Mann Originals to Mark. Mark opened Legend Jewelers on Concho Avenue where Jack continued to be an integral part of the business even after retirement. The two men worked together for over 30 years.
Jack traveled to Mexico City, Rome and Venice, Italy, England and all over the U.S. during his life. He enjoyed bowling and water skiing. He most especially enjoyed his time at “the lease”, a deer lease on the Tweedy Ranch, with his close friends Truett Smith and Sam Nance. For many years, Jack was a member of the Hoolihan in Mertzon.
Specials thanks from the entire family for the friendship and guidance from L. J. Barnes, also to the staff of Regency House for the loving care Jack received while staying there.
Honorary pallbearers will be John McCallister, Mark Priest, Sam Nance, Larry Barnes, John Hoffman and Jack Reichert.
