Herlie worked for over 20 years for the San Angelo school system, retiring as a cafeteria manager. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to many places with other seniors and especially her best friend, Lucille Middleton. Herlie was constantly involved in senior activities and did a lot of volunteer work for the San Angelo Food Bank, as well as Baptist Memorial Auxiliary. Herlie was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church and never wavered from her belief in her Lord Jesus Christ.
Herlie was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack L. Smith, and the second love of her life, husband Louie McDonald, whom she met late in life. Louie was “her cowboy sweetheart”, as she lovingly referred to him. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers Earl Wagner, Odell Wagner, Freddie Wagner, and Ray Wagner; as well as children, Donna Pruitt, Faye Elaine Smith, and Bonnie Smith.
She is survived by three children, Dale L. Smith and his wife Sharyn of Lubbock, Lawrence E. Smith and his wife Denise of Flower Mound, and Patti S. Smith of Austin, and her son in-law and long time caregiver, Eddie R. Pruitt of San Angelo, one sister, Johnnie Blacklock and her husband Carroll of San Angelo, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
