Helen Phillips

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, April 6th at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 7th in Johnson’s Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Helen was born to Walter and Luda Whitfield in San Angelo on July 18, 1924.

Helen was a long time employee of GTE. Beginning with the San Angelo Telephone Company in 1949, Helen remained valuable to GTE long after retirement in 1982 as an employee of GTEDS. During the eighties Helen accepted numerous consulting assignments for the company and had the opportunity to make new friends and explore new places for another decade. After a second retirement, Helen located in Tucson, AZ to pursue her interests in Ball room Dancing, Music and Tennis. In 1999, Helen returned to San Angelo and made her home at Rio Concho West and more recently with her son, Lynn.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Jeffers of Tucson, AZ; a son Lynn Phillips of San Angelo; a daughter Corliss Decker and husband Ron of Kendallville, IN; grandsons Justin Phillips and wife Dodi of Lubbock, TX and David Phillips and wife Jacque of Austin; great grandchildren Jett, Rhyen, Bella and Kenedee and a fifth great-grandchild is expected later this year.

The family wishes to thank attending staff at Community Hospital and special gratitude to Angie Leigh whose care and compassion lifted our mother’s spirits.
