Gussie Evelyn Knight, age 73 of San Saba, TX, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday evening, May 31, 2023. Gussie was born July 12, 1949, in Overton, TX to Samuel and Dorothy Bockmon and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967.
Gussie was preceded in death by her parents Samuel & Dorothy Bockmon, brothers Mark & John Bockmon, brother-in-law Pat Knight & wife Fontella, brother-in-law John Knight & wife Betty Lou, and sister-in-law Geneva McAngus & husband Bill. She is survived by her sister Flo Limehouse & husband Rick, sister-in-law Teresa McNatt Bockmon, sister-in-law Marie Bockmon Cariker, and sister-in-law Barbie Bockmon-Stegman. She had numerous nieces and nephews and beloved friends that she counted as family members.
Gussie will have a burial service at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, TX on Monday, June 5th at 10am, and a Celebration of Life service in San Saba, TX at First Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 7th at 10am. Honorary pallbearers will be Giovanni Fauley, Martin Hernandez, Matt Vines, Scott Carter, Joe David Ward, & Luke Cox.
Gussie married Bobby Knight on September 27, 1968, after a short courtship and they celebrated the highs and lows of marriage for 54 years together. They had one daughter, Corina, in April 1970. Their little family grew to include son-in-law, Jody Fauley, and after many years of prayers, 2 blessed grandchildren Elliana Fauley and Giovanni Fauley. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life and she proudly called herself their Grandmom. You would always see her at every baseball game, track meet, dance recital, or honors event. She was their biggest cheerleader!
Gussie wore many hats throughout her life. She worked as a receptionist, bookkeeper, secretary, and IT specialist. She volunteered countless hours at school when Corina was younger, but Church ministry was her calling, and she served God with her time and talents, up to the end of her life. She ministered to the nurses, aides, and hospital staff before she died, and made an impact on all who met her.
Gussie adored spending time with her friends, playing games, traveling, and having fun. She loved playing Mahjong with her San Angelo friends, and never missed a chance to sit down and play all sorts of games with her grandkids and friends. She was able to travel through the years with her BFF’s Yvonne Carter-Flint and Alice Vines-Crowe. Oh, the stories these ladies could tell you! She also cherished her Downton ladies who loved all things British. What great times they had together! Mom’s prayer warrior friends were a source of strength as they prayed and encouraged each other through all the ups and downs of life. If you asked mom to pray for you, you could count on her fervent prayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, San Saba (memo: Christmas Child Shoeboxes). Mom was passionate about this ministry and loved packing 100 boxes each year!
John 16:22 Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.
