Gilbert Gomez Garcia, Sr. age 80 of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Gilbert was born August 29, 1941 in San Angelo, Texas to Albino and Antonia Sosa Garcia. On July 4th, 1959, he married Oralia Hernandez Garcia, they shared 62 beautiful years together. Gilbert began his career working for Armour Packing Co. until the business closed. He then went to work for the City of San Angelo Street & Bridge division until his retirement after 20 years.
Gilbert was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and also enjoyed listening to the San Angelo Bobcats football games on the radio. His hobbies included family cookouts, dancing, catering and spending time with his family and friends, but most of all, spending time with the love of his life.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents Albino and Antonia Garcia; three brothers and four sisters; twin daughters Christine and Elizabeth Garcia; his grandson Austin Rivera, and son Gilbert H. Garcia, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Oralia H. Garcia; his daughters Gloria Garcia of San Angelo, Debbie Ortiz and husband Santos of Fort Worth, Texas Diana Villarreal and husband Richard of San Angelo, Texas, Racheal Martinez and husband Richard of Leander, Texas; his sister, Chonita Herrera; 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
A rosary for Gilbert will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 7:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home. A funeral mass will occur Friday, December 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 301 West 17th Street. Gilbert will be laid to rest in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Amos Rivera, Mark Ortiz, Jason Rivera, Eddie Gutierrez, Nathaniel Martinez and Benjamin Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Anton Gutierrez, Frank Villarreal, Jeremy Rivera, Jamison Rivera, Jacob Duran and Ethan Rivera. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the 4th floor at Shannon Medical Hospital.
