Gilbert attended Lake View High School and graduated in the class of 1962. He later went on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas and then his Master's from Sul Ross University.
Gilbert then began his career in Education working at various secondary schools, primarily at Garland ISD as a football coach, teacher and administrator. Working with youth to make them become the best they could be was his passion.
Gilbert married the love of his life, Donna Simone, on October 27, 2001. The love he had for his wife was unwavering. Gilbert was a loyal man who loved his family and friends deeply. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved ranching. Gilbert was a proud member of the Mason's and a patriotic veteran of the United States Army.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother, Ruben Duran; his brother, Gregorio Duran and his sister-in-law, Mary Simone.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 22 years, Donna Simone; his sister, Emma Perez and husband Juan; his brother, George Duran and wife Yvonne; his sister Irene Duran Velez and husband Gilbert; his brother-in-laws, Richard Simone and wife Joyce, Joseph Simone, John Simone, and Robert Simone and wife Jan.
The family would like to send a special thank you to his nephew, Johnny Perez of Joshua, TX and his neighbor, Rob Honsted for all of their love and support during this time.
A rosary for Gilbert will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 at 7:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard Avenue, San Angelo, Texas. A mass of christian burial will occur Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St Joseph's Catholic Church, 301 West 17th Street, San Angelo, Texas.
Gilbert will be laid to rest in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM 1223, San Angelo, Texas.
