Evelyn was born on February 14, 1929 during a snowstorm in Rowena, Texas. She graduated from Eola High School in 1946. She married Steve Ashton at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ballinger, Texas on July 6, 1961.
She and Steve made their home on the family ranch in Talpa for some time until settling into their home and jobs in San Angelo. Evelyn retired from San Angelo National Bank.
She enjoyed her home, family, yard, flowers and her special puppy pal, Shorty.
She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Minnie Englert, her husband, Steve Ashton; brother, Andrew Englert, brother-in-law, Bill Ashton, niece and nephew, Marilyn Kay Englert and Jimmy Michael Englert.
She is survived by her sister-in-law and friend, Matilda “Tillie” Englert, niece and nephews, Joyce Englert Hall of Prosper, Texas, Robert Englert and wife, Rose of Norton, Texas and Stephen Englert and wife, Tammy of Sandia, Texas as well as great nieces and nephews, Jamie Knape and husband, Brad and children of Houston, Mike Englert and wife, Katie and children of Corpus Christi, Texas, Holly Englert of Winters, Jennifer Englert of Houston, Tyler Englert of Norton and Thomas Hall of Prosper, Texas also niece Pam Ross of New Mexico and Steve’s aunt, Ruth Pyle of Cleburne.
A Wake/ Rosary will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 5:00 PM at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Holy Angels Catholic Church.
Graveside service will be held at 12 Noon at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, Texas.
The family would like to thank the wonderful neighbors who were such good friends to Evelyn as well as the doctors and staff at Shannon Hospital and Regency House and Meals for the Elderly.
In lieu of flowers those who wish to remember Evelyn may choose to have a mass said in her memory or make a donation to the SPCA, Meals for the Elderly or charity of your choice.
