On a beautiful windy afternoon, Monday, February l7th, God sent an Angel for his child to bring her home to Him. Eva Beth Butler was born on May 28, 1934 to Ervin Butler, Sr. and Nealie Butler, who both preceded her in death.
She graduated from Blackshear High School and attended San Angelo Jr. College. Eva was employed in her early life by several families in San Angelo, and finally retired from Johnson’s Funeral Home, after being employed there for over twenty years.
She loved making her special German Chocolate cake to give to her special friends, and she was a songbird, having sung all of her life. Eva loved to read her bible and knew each and every scripture by heart, often finishing the scripture before whoever was reading it.
Eva grew up as a member of Greater St. Paul A.M.E. Church. In the last couple of years she had become a member of Wesley Trinity United Methodist Church. She would often say, " I was born a Methodist, I'm going to die a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by brothers Neil Butler Sr. and Darnell Butler, also by a sister Alice Flowers. Eva is survived by one daughter Dudra D'Ann Butler and siblings Ervin Butler, Jr., of Austin, Jaye Jean Smith of San Antonio, Clara Butler Freeze (Garland) of San Angelo, and Robert Butler (Jean) of San Angelo, Tx.
Memorials may be sent to Wesley Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, or the San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council in care of Buffalo Soldier Statue.
