Elta Smith Burrell Pierson

Elta Smith Burrell Pierson, age 88, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022. She was born on May 10, 1934 in Alpine, Texas to Howard and Annie (Farr) Smith. Elta attended Lakeview High School and graduated in the class of 1951. She married Bill Burrell, Sr. in 1951 and together they had 3 children.

Elta worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed working for Meadow Creek Nursing Home where she was the office manager for 9 years.

Elta was very active in her church, Harris Avenue Baptist, where she was a member of WMU and always volunteered to help with Vacation Bible School. She also volunteered in the thrift shop at Baptist Memorial and for Meals For The Elderly.

Elta was very creative. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing and arts and crafts. She was a great seamstress and always cooked for every holiday. She was also very giving, always ready and willing to help her family and friends.

Elta married Kenneth R. Pierson in 1989. Together, they travelled extensively. They visited Alaska, the Grand Canyon, and many other states; including 23 National Parks. Travelling was what they loved to do, even taking their grandchildren on some of their adventures. Those memories will last forever.

Elta is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth R. Pierson; her daughter, Debra Burrell Wood and her sister, Nell Huss. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Baldwin and husband Greg and Bill Burrell Jr. and wife Andrea. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Leslie Alexander, Dorcy Swindell and husband Kirk, Kelly Burrell, Zaki Alexander, Justin Pierson and wife Heather, and Jeffrey Pierson and wife Saffy, as well as 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.

The family would like to send a special "Thank You" to Gentiva hospice for their care during mother's last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elta's name to Meals for the Elderly or Harris Avenue Baptist Church.

A visitation for Elta will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard Avenue, San Angelo, Texas. A graveside service will occur Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM 1223, San Angelo, Texas.
