I had no idea he had passed. Ed was always real nice to me, a good friend. He taught me a lot about jazz and playing the trumpet- he was always an encouragement to me and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. It breaks my heart that he’s gone. Thank you, Ed. Thank you so much.

From the Vasquez family:  Ed was a great friend, a patriot, and an amazing trumpet player.  He was there at the beginning and a member of the greatest funk band in the southwest,  The Funky Munkys.  Rest In Peace and play your trumpet for angels.

Ed Hull was a fun loving, wild and crazy guy.  He enjoyed life and his enthusiasm was contagious.  He was a big kid at heart and all the kids loved him.  He loved his family more than anything and he couldn’t stop bragging about his grandson, Cade. 

I’m so glad that Ed and Kim came out this summer to Las Vegas, giving us all the chance to reconnect.  I wish I knew this would be the last time I would see him because I would have delayed their trip back, so we could have more time together.

He has left some big shoes to fill and I can only hope that in time the big hole in all of our hearts 
heals enough to live life, as Ed would have wanted everyone to do.

My deepest condolences to the family of Ed Hull. I was fortunate to sit next to him for years in a band — in Funky Munky. He was kind, gentle and unwaveringly caring. He cracked jokes at his own expense. He never took himself too seriously, not Ed "Ed-Weirdo" Hull, who took great joy in pointing out how he was the spitting image of Weird Al Yankovic. And like his famous doppelganger, Ed loved music. He would sit down in his red, plastic bar stool, antler-handle cane left to the side, black beret on his head and whip out his trumpet, play a few high notes, then he'd set the horn down and ask, "Hey, John-O, how you doing? That was the thing about Ed: he asked lots of questions, and not the cheap, small-talk stuff, but the real get-to-know-you questions, the kind that made you feel valued and appreciated — what you thought about this subject or this musical artist, and what was going on in your life. And Ed always listened to whatever it was you had to say. He played at my wedding. He smiled at every photo I ever showed him of my then-newborn daughter. He gave me a musical note tie-pin for Christmas that he'd designed and made himself. And he gave me a big, sweaty hug when I left music to pursue other interests. I'm so sorry he died. It was a little more than a year ago, years after we'd played our last show together, when Ed sent me a text message out of the blue, just to say how proud he was of me — of what I'd accomplished, of who I'd become. Who does that? Other than family? But then with the kind of loving heart that Ed had, everyone was family, more or less to some degree. Requiescat in pace, Ed Hull — Ed-Weirdo, horndog, friend. You will be deeply, deeply missed.

Our dear multi-talented Ed. 
He made beautiful music, crafted wonderful tooled leather belts and pictures, was a handyman, wrote a book and was proud of his vegetable garden.
He had the ability to play silly games with children of all ages, and they all adored him.
I will miss his non-stop whistling.
He loved my daughter and his daughters and grandson unconditionally.

Sure going to miss you Ed. I loved picking on you about your 70s technology and grandson but also just loved you. We'll see each other again I'm sure.

Ed was an awesome individual! He served our country honorably in the military, retiring as a SrNCO (MSgt) in the Air Force, receiving a STEP promotion to TSgt for his organizational skills as a correctional custody (CC) supervisor. I worked for and alongside Ed at Goodfellow AFB with the CC Program. His positive performance allowed many to return back to their unit after completing CC. He was a very positive leader. As a friend and neighbor after our retirement, Ed always had time to visit. He would always have a hug and a handshake ready. I will miss my friend. Good job, true and faithful servant. My condolences to his wife Kim, his daughters, extended family, friends and former coworkers.
