L. Earl Coker, 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Earl is survived by his wife Cecelia Coker; sons Chris Coker and wife Brigitte and Mitch Coker; daughters Brandie Vaughn and Krystal Flores and husband Joey; granddaughters Dakota Flores, Khloe Flores, and Madison Flores; grandson Cameron Coker; granddaughter Chasidy Mauldin; brother Johnny Coker and wife Pat; and cousin Jimmy D. Coker and wife Betty. Earl was born November 22, 1941 in Corsicana, TX to Norvil and Lois (Nichols) Coker. He was an avid sports fan who, in his earlier years, loved playing baseball. While in high school in Corsicana, his team went to the state championship game in baseball. In the late seventies, he coached semi-pro baseball here in San Angelo. He was an avid golfer who loved playing with his numerous friends every Wednesday afternoon at SACC. His work career started in 1964 working as an insurance agent with Allstate in Odessa. After a couple of years, he went to work for Farmers Insurance and in 1972, moved from Odessa to San Angelo and began his agency here in San Angelo. He was an agent for Farmers Insurance for 41 years retiring in 2007. Besides being an insurance agent, he also had many side ventures in real estate. He also loved auto racing and was one of the developers of Road Runner Speedway in San Angelo. Earl had endless energy and was involved in numerous partnerships and development over the years. The family would like to send a special shout out to his Inn Of The West Coffee Group and his Golfing Buddies at SACC. The pallbearers for the service will be Cameron Coker, John Conn, Bob Housley, Ted Hooper, Robert Perez, Mike Godwin, Bobby Menchaca, Milton Pierce, and Eddie Walker. Honorary Pallbearers will be a special cousin Jimmy D. Coker, Wes James, Charlie McDaniel, Bill Davis, Joe Emery, David Winston, Tommy Corbell, Bill Kyle, Danny Kiser, Mike Halamicek, Gregg Labarge, Ricky Perez, Robert Rosson, Dale Heck, and Mickey Sallee. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Delane, Peggy, Candy, Kathy, Sherrie and Tina of Odyssey Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The American Heart Associan, West Texas Boy’s Ranch, West Texas Rehab, St. Judes Children’s Hospital and The Children’s Miracle Network.
