Dorothy Snow Stephenson, 93, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in Lubbock, Texas. The visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Friday, April 20, 2012 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. The graveside service will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Dorothy was born March 28, 1919 in Franklin County, Texas to Sidney and Ethel Hill Snow. She married J. Perry Stephenson on June 10, 1937, and they shared 57 beautiful years of marriage together until his death in 1995.
Dorothy spent her early years in East Texas and Dallas and graduated high school in Rodessa, Louisiana, in 1937. She and Perry were “doodlebuggers” while he worked for Shell Oil Company and lived in many places in Mississippi and Texas. Dorothy was a beautician for several years in Odessa before retiring with Perry to San Angelo in 1971. They were members of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Dorothy moved to Grapevine in 1998 to be with family and joined Memorial Baptist Church there.
Dorothy was a loving and happy mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and we will dearly miss her. She was our rock in the storm of life. She was preceded in death by her parents , husband Perry, her brother Jon Snow and sister Nell Arrington. She is survived by her loving family: son, Joe W. Stephenson ( Sharan )of Lubbock, TX; daughter, Patricia Farley ( Bob) of Grapevine, TX; her grandchildren, Christi Quimby (Leon) of Lubbock, Lori Healy (Rob)of Southlake, TX, Jared Farley (Brandi) of Tulsa, OK, and Zachary Farley of Arlington, TX, as well as seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews , four sisters-in law, one brother-in-law and many friends.
The family wishes to thank Rose Brown and the nursing staff at The Plaza of Lubbock for their loving care of Dorothy over the past two years.
