She was born on December 9, 1957 in Crosbyton, Texas to Curtis Ray and Betty Sue Nichols.
Donna attended Floydada High School and graduated in the class of 1976. She attended one year of college at West Texas University before deciding to move to Amarillo and start a family.
There she met Gary Thompson and they were married on December 9, 1978, on her 21st birthday. Together, they had three beautiful children, Michele born in June of ‘80, Kyle born in May of ‘83, and Chance born in January of ‘85.
She began her career working various secretarial jobs in Amarillo before moving to San Angelo in 1992. It was in San Angelo, that Donna started working as a clerk for First Title Company until she gained employment at the GTE/Verizon Corporation in 1994. Donna was a customer service representative at Verizon, where she worked for 18 years until the company moved her job out of the area. That is when she found her final place of employment with the Tom Green County Detention Center. Here she worked as a corrections officer for the last 11 years of her life. She was proud of her job and enjoyed working with all of her fellow corrections officers.
Donna was a very hardworking woman and set a strong example of the kind of person, friend, and family member that one should strive to be like. She would do anything within her power to help those that she cared for. She had a knack for turning nothing into something and made sure that her family never went without. Donna loved her children and her grandchildren more than anything in this world and out of all the names she went by in life, “Nana” was her favorite. She was a modest woman and never really cared to be the center of attention, but you better believe that she was always around to show her love and support. Donna was an avid reader and intelligent beyond her years. All of these things helped mold the beautiful person that she was. She will be deeply missed by all of her loved ones and especially those of us that knew her best. Momma, we love you more than words can express and we will carry on your traditions, love, and memories always!!
