Born on November 24, 1947 in Pass Christian, Mississippi, Dad was raised in Baton Rouge, LA, where he became an avid LSU Tiger fan. He had the privilege of being in the stadium when both Billy Cannon and Odell Beckham, Jr. had punt returns that sealed a Tiger victory. His love for the Tigers is one of the greatest things he has passed on.
Dad joined the United States Air Force in 1967, emulating a man that he had the most respect for, his brother-in-law, Bobby Singleton. Dad served 3 combat tours in Vietnam flying on B-52’s. He served proudly and without remorse. During his time in the military Dad met the love of his life, Betty Sue Moran, who preceded him in death in 2021. They traveled all over the world including Yakota, Dyess, Keesler, Goodfellow, and RAF Alconbury. Dad retired in 1989 after almost 23 years of dedicated service.
After returning, Dad went to work for the San Angelo Standard Times delivering newspapers to outlying communities daily. He then went to work as a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service and worked there until he retired.
Dad leaves behind a legacy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Mae Saucier and his brother, Roy L. Moran. He leaves behind his beloved sister who was more like a mother than sister, Viola Mae Singleton. He also leaves behind his son, Timothy and grandchildren, Audrey and Dylan. His daughter, Tonya and grandchildren, Dustin (Maribel) and Brittaney, and his son Donald and grandchild Brenden. Also left to carry his legacy are great-grandchildren, Julian, Leah, Autumn, Addison, and Charly. He also had one great-great grandchild, Johnny. As well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss their “Unca Donnie.”
A visitation for Donald will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation from 8 am-9 am, before the graveside at Johnson’s Funeral Home. At his request, a graveside service will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Dad, who earned every moment will have a full military honors service.
