Services will be Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Knickerbocker Community Cemetery in Knickerbocker, Texas.
David was born December 23, 1942 in Washington D.C. to Ralph and Elva Fondersmith. He is survived by his two siblings, brother John Fondersmith and wife, Mary, and sister Mary Anne Multer.
He served in the US Air Force for 4 years as a language translator, stationed in England.
He met Connie and married her on December 23, 1971, and they had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They made their home in Menard, Texas for 40 years.
They are survived by 2 children, their daughter, Jennifer Ruff and her husband, Matt, and their son, Ryan Fondersmith. He had one grandson, Joseph, and another one on the way in June. He is survived also by his nieces and nephews, Dev Multer and wife Tricia, Stephanie Iacovelli and husband Mike, and Vicky Pittman and husband Rob.
He graduated from Angelo State University, where he received his bachelors and masters degrees in English and Education. He attended the University of Texas and studied Library Science. David taught and worked as a librarian in Menard for almost 40 years. David loved his job as a librarian and was an avid reader. He loved to research information for students and teachers. He was intelligent and so inquisitive, loved to learn. He was famous for puns and fonder jokes and had a hearty laugh. He had the hugest heart for his dogs over the years and shed tears over losing them.
As a father, he was a protective, thoughtful, caring, and loving. His sudden death
leaves a huge hole in our family and in our hearts, but we are thankful for the memories and legacy that lives on in us and those that knew him.
Memorials can be made to Tom Green County Library in David’s honor.
